    neighbours came and piled sods and everything could be got on the part of the house that remained. There was a son born that night so everyone knew his age, he was born the night of the Big Wind.

  2. The Big Wind occurred on the sixth of January 1839. The wind which occurred exactly a century ago did much destruction in this part.
    In the townland of Clooncarn, our house was situated on the top of a steep hill. The wind blew down the dwelling-house and outoffices and killed two cows.
