    Was the first tune they played.
    It was their cry as they passed by,
    Where was the Ribbon-Blade,
    Our Irish blood began to flow,
    Like any purling rill,
    And we a few did them pursue,
    And we met on Ardrum Hill.

    Says Will the chief here is the
    Priest,
    His house we will consume,
    Around the walls they fired balls,
    The roof and rigging tore,
    But he defied that lowlived,
    tribe,
    That walked through Ballinamore.

    At our first engagement we made
    a grand attack.
    We broke their guns and bayonets,
    And we tore their orange flag.
    Their numbers strong were ten
    to one,
