    The old houses were made of clay and stones. The floor was made of clay. The windows were very small because if the windows were big the people would have to pay more money for the house.
    Some of the houses were slated and some of them were thatched with straw or rushes. The gable-ends of the houses were slated so as to keep out the wet.
    The fireplace was placed at the gable-wall of the house. The chimmeys were made of clay and stones.
    There are not many houses with half-doors now.
