    Before he went the farmer gave the man three advices. Firstly never to cross a field for a near-cut, secondly never to sleep in a house where there would be an old woman and a young boy, and thirdly never to do a thing in haste.
    One night as the man was on his way home he was about to go across a field for a near-cut when he thought of the farmer's advice and he went round the road. There was an army in ambush in the field and had he gone across the field he would probably have been killed or shot.
