  1. To prepare ground for potatoes so as to make it fine, the farmer ploughs the ground. Then he cross ploughs it, harrows it, and cultivates it. If it is not fine enough he harrows it again, and then opens it with a double sided plough, so as to make the drills. Then the farmer has to cart out the manure, and put it in the drills. Then he comes along and spreads it with a grape through the drill. When the manure is spread the people drop the seeds about twelve inches apart. Some people sow artificial manure to help on the growth. The drills are closed then. When the buds are about ten days in the ground the people take the topes off them with a drill
