- Sometime about the Sixth century a holy man named Nemg or Neápig founded a church on the banks of the river Lingaun, or as it was known in those times as the Fairypool, hence the name Killonery, or in our native language Cill Ó Neappig or church of Nemg. This is no legend but true history as today, after fourteen centuries the remains of this building remain.There are two holy water fonts, marking the Western extremity of this church, one flat shaped like a disk, the other(continues on next page)
