  1. Once there was a man going to Lauragh for a load of wood. When he was east as far as the bridge of Bawrs he met Máire Ní Mhurchadha and she asked him for a lift and he gave it to her. He told her to sit in on the other side of the car and she did. He drove on until he came to the first height east of Dennie Sullivan's fields of Bawrs. The horse refused to go any further. The man came out of the car and warned Máire Ní Mhurchadha to get out of the car, or that he would split her with the crop of the whip, that he would not mind what would happen to himself after. Máire Ní Mhurchadha jumped out of the car. The man sat into the car and struck the horse with the whip and he pulled the car up the hill without any trouble. The man said when he came home that it must be a crowd of fairies he had in the car with Máire Ní Mhurchadha.
