    The work in the haggard being arranged and completed,
    To the house we retreated with laughter and glee.
    Till some gay-hearted lad round the kitchen was seated,
    When the lass he was choosing sat down on his knee.
    John Scanlon stood up when the music resounded,
    And handled young Maggie to dance on the floor.
    With laughter the loudest and pleasures abounded,
    That night of our threshing in sweet Donoughmore.

    The temperance party was treated with claret,
    Our programme to vary the night to prolong.
    Till a smiling young lady prevailed on John Barrett,
    To kindly oblige us by giving a song.
    "I'll roam through the deserts of wild Abyssina,
    And cross oer the Alps like Napeoleon of yore.
    But had I the pleasure to sit at my leisure,
    With the flower and the beauty of sweet Donoughmore.
