  1. My home is situated in the townland of Neadbeag, so called because long ago when eagles were in Ireland it is said that one of them built his nest on a very high cliff there.
    At the time of the last trouble about fourteen years ago there were three noble Irish men shot at Neadbeag. The names of these were David Herlihy, Edmond Waters, and Michael Kiely.
    David being owner of the house, sheltered the other two for some time until an informer named Shiels reported him.
    One Thursday morning at the break of day the soldiers surrounded the house.
    The three republicans being in bed were fast asleep till the soldiers burst in the door and seized some rifles which lay on the floor.
    They set fire to the house and told the three men to go out.
    When they were outside the soldiers told them to run and if they did so they could escape.
    They had not gone far when David fell in his own field at the back of the house, being shot.
    Edmond Waters ran down a very high glen towards a river but he was shot also and fell into the
