- One day in August in the year 1937 a tragic occurrence took place in the mountain not far from where I live.
It was on the 12th day of August the day in which the grouse shooting is started.
That morning dawned fine and calm and a motor car of fowlers came to Crinaloe mountain to spend the day shooting there.
When the sun burst into view they started out a shooting in the cool and balmy air
They spent the day travelling through the mountain until noon, they then took refreshments and again went their way shooting as the birds rose up.
Once a pack of birds rose and a man by the name of McAuliffe fired a shot at them.
He then suddenly fell to the ground and never rose again. As he lay dead his comrades got an awful shock and they did not know what to do.
Then they took him home in the car after the priest had anointed him.
This was a terrible news to take to his wife and relations at home. They were not aware of the dreadful news; what they expected was some wild birds and the news of the day's fowling in the mountain.
