- In olden days when a person died he or she was waked in his own house for two days and two nights and he would be buried on the third day.
When a person died he would be first washed and the habit put on him.
Next the bed would be arranged.
First the matress was taken out and a strong broad board was put in instead and covered with a snow white sheet.
Then the corpse was put in and the bed was draped at both ends with an other white sheet.
Black crosses made of crepe were sewn on the sheets
Next a Rosary beads was put in the dead person's hands and five candles were lighed on a table near the bed.
As the people came into the wake room they said prayers.
When all the people were gathered together at the wake the Rosary was said about 12 o'clock.
At dawn they went home until next day when the funeral took place.
The coffin was brought in a horse and common cart.(continues on next page)- Collector
