   A very heavy snow-fall occurred in this district about 40 years ago. First, a storm arose some time during the night and it continued all the following day, then it became very calm but the sky remained very dark. Then it began to snow in very small flakes and it continued this for a day and from that until nearly a week it was snowing. The depth of the fall was ten or eleven feet at this time. When the snow ceased it began to freeze and this caused the snow to last longer. The doors of some houses were blocked with snow and the people had to make paths through the snow to get outside doors. They had to melt the snow for water. In other places the people were able to walk on the top of the snow when it was frozen. The snow lasted about three weeks and when it began to melt it caused a great flood. Numerous birds and animals suffered during the time and when some animals were found dead the snow about their heads melted from the heat of their breath. It was in this way they were discovered.
