    that he went over one "Wren's Day" to the house of the late Recorder of Cork, at Dromcummer, Banteer, and got a halfcrown to sing the wren's song for the Recorder. It is customary for the first comer to get most money. When three, or four, go out together, they travel as much as they possibly can, and on arrival home that evening, they divide the money evenly. This they spend, usually, at a dance on that night. Poor children usually give the money to their parents. There is always great hurry to be first at the best houses.
    Aug 15th - During the month of August flowers are picked, and put in vases, on the home altar in honour of the Blessed Virgin. The statue is kept here, and the house hold always remember, that it is Mary's month. On the 15th Aug., two candles are usually lighted beside the statue, and short prayers recited by the members of the house hold throughout the day.
    June - The Sacred Heart lamp is kept lighting all the year round, but particularly in the month of June, in honour of the Sacred Heart.
    St. Brigid's Day:- St Brigid's Cross is made of sticks or rushes, and hung at the back of the door, as a protection from all kinds of infectious diseases. Even two matches would suffice to make the
