    summer months the potatoes must be levelled and heaped up too. When the stalks are well grown they are [?] sprayed.
    Some dig them out with a spade and others with a plough and a potato digger. The potatoes are stored in pits and are covered with earth. The various kinds of potatoes are "Arran Banners", "Shamrocks", "Golden Wonders", "Skerries", and "Chieftains". Golden Wonders and Shamrocks are the best for the climate in my district. In olden times potatoes were used instead of starch.
    The people cut the potatoes three or four days
