- The people long ago had numerous cures for their ailments. When children were young they suffered from a disease called thrush. Use was made of gander for this disease. The gander breathed into the child's mouth for nine mornings. For the whooping cough use was made of a ferret. The people gave the ferrets milk, and whatever the left they gave it to they child, and at the end of nine mornings the child would be cured.(continues on next page)
