    The owl in lethargy reposed - in solitude immured,
    Nor ventured from his draped abode, until the moon at night,
    Invited him to hasten on his swift, nocturnal flight.
    To night that moon in heaven beams fair, while slowly on the wane,
    Perhaps it seeks that ancient owl perhaps it seeks in vain.

    Adjacent to the castle, in the shade of its tall towers,
    An old romantic orchard bore abundant fruit and flowers.
    Encompassing its battered walls, grew trees of every size,
    Whose topmost foliage seemed to sweep the ceiling of the skies.

    Beside my home; the Shannon rolled its solmn, winding way,
    Reverberating symphonies through-out the night and day.
    The sloping banks converged to meet the rivers fond embrace,
