    of harm's way, lightened the peasant's hearts and showered down on them all they sighed for. The blind piper sat in the chimney corner, while the floor resounded with the tap, tap of lithesome feet timing his melodious notes. The nut-burners, lead-melters, the apple divers all pursued their favourite games around, enlivened now and again by a steaming jorum of the " rale ould mountain dew ", never spoiled by the blink of a gauger's eyes. But a change came and Hallowe'en is now ranked amongst the happy times of the past. And why? No more at that happy season were seen the cosy farmsteads encircled by the wall thatched produce of the preceeding year. All, all had found its way into the insatiable maw of landlordism.
