    Placed o'er her brow of old.

    Surely in the heat and struggle and crush and worry of the trying times around us, it is refreshing to take our minds back to the merry past and dwell if only for an hour, on scenes and times and men whose records give us an insight of the buoyant nature of the Celtic heart. We will find in those records that although " wild war's deadly blast " had hardly ceased to blow for seven hundred years over the blood-be-dewed plains of Ireland, it was unable to check the exuberant, with their new inventions of conquest, tore up the peasant homes of the land. Then and not till then was the fountain of that free and joyous spirit tapped and its pulses stilled
