    He journey'd on until he came
    To a poor peasant's cot -
    A man whom, hard, unceasing toil
    Had ever been his lot -
    And there the weary traveller,
    A warm welcome found -
    "Beneath my roof" the 'good man' said,
    For you "good cheer" abound.

    The "good dame" rose and stirred the fire,
    His dripping clothes to dry ;
    The children running for a chair,
    Each other did out[?].
    A steaming jug of sweet new milk
    For him they did prepare,
    And thirst and hunger's cravings
    Were replenished then and there.
