    About the age of 18 years he joined the Fenian Brotherhood, about which he composed. the poem "Called the moon light Drill. It was about an Irish man who was Captain in the English Army. and who used come at night to drill the Fenians on Slievenamon. This Captain was later arrested and cast into an English Dungeon. His name was Rory Mc. Gragh.
    The Poem is as follows.
    Deep silence reign o'er Compsy's bale.
    No sound was in the Air
    The risky swine in health he
    sleeps
    To rest from Toil and care.
    The warbling tenants of the grove.
