are made of wattles and clay. There was a settled-bed in the kitchen. It was made of wood and was like a long seat with a back when closed. It could be let down to form a bed. My father said that when they were making the old houses of clay they didn't leave any opening for the windows. They were afterwards cut out of the clay walls with spades. In the parlour there is a space built into the wall for a bed.
