  1. Long ago the people were very strong and active and the were good for Hurling and kicking Football. The most important games of that time were Hurling, Football, bowling, weight-throwing and running. Long ago the parishes or townlands challenged each other for a Hurling or Football match and they met at a central place and decided it. The hurleys they had were made of sally sticks and a the ball was made by the shoe-maker from leather. The Football they had was made of cords or rags inside a leather cover.
