  1. Long ago the Irish people played many games. The most important of these games was hurling. If it often two townlands challanged each other or two parishes. Once the townland of Cahirmurphy challanged the townland of Shyan. The match was played in Clonakilla. Shyan won the match. The greatest men on the Shyan side were Denny Kelly, Pat Grady, and Pat Hasset. The greatest on the Cahirmurphy side were John and Michael Breen. Pat Grady was a great goalkeeper for Shyan.
