- (continued from previous page)Long ago there lived in Ireland a boy and girl whose's names were John and Mary. John had a bow and arrow with which he used to shoot wild animals. One day he killed a wolf and his sister made a lovely coat for him out of the fur. He went out the next day wearing the coat. After a while he lay down and went to sleep in the sun. When he awoke he found that the sun had srunk up his coat.
He was vexed with the sun. He went home and told his sister to braid a long cord of deer sinews. This, of course was very strong. When it was finished he set off until he reached the sun. When the sun rose it could not pass the horizen as it was snared.
At this time the mouse was the largest animal in the world. When he saw the sun snared he called the animals and they held a council. All agreed that the wood-pecker should try to cut the cord, but he soon returned saying he could not bear(continues on next page)- Collector
