Long ago in our district mass was said in the tannery in Mullingar in the penal days. At the back of it there was a small narrow passage. Each side of the passage there was a big hedge. The priest stole down there and said mass for the people. There was a "mass bush" in Voiletstown, Mullingar where the priests also offered mass during the Penal Times. P. Healy

Although there are several mass bushes and mass rocks in this locality the only one I know of is the mass bush in my Granny's (Mrs Crumfield at Ardonagh.
