    On no account would the owner of cows allow the Elder tree to be used as firewood as it was supposed to bring disorder on the cows udders.
    The people get the hatching eggs from Mrs Hanley who lives in Walshestown. Twelve eggs make a sitting and she generally gives one for luck. The eggs are always stamped. Each egg bears the inscription "Poultry Station, Agriculture". A hen is nearly always put hatching on Friday because it is counted a lucky day.
