  2. We had three landlords in this district. their properties met at Walshestown crossroads.
    Lady Nugent owned all the land in Walshestown South. Frances John Talbot owned Tallaghan, Ballard and Walshestown North. Col. James Smith of Gaybrook owned Johnstown and Slanemore. All three were considerate landlords yet they managed to get the last farthing from their tenants. Their ancestors were soldiers of either Cromwell or King William and they got the lands
