    In olden times the houses were made from mud and straw. They were thatched with straw and the straw was got from the farm.
    In the kitchen there was a bed which was placed near the fire. It wes called a "settle bed". The fire place was in the centre of the house. The chimneys were made from wattles and mud. Sally rods were twisted in an out through the wattles.
