  2. Houses in the district had always glass for windows. In olden times the floors was made from yellow clay. This was mixed with water and when set would be as firm as a cement floor.
    All the houses had half-doors formerly but now only one third of the houses in this district have half-doors.
    Turf fires were the most common.
