- I live in the townland of Abbeyshrule (Mainstir Srutha) which got its name from the abbey by the stream. It is situated in the parish of Carrickedmond and in the barony of Shrule.
There are seventeen families in it and it has a population of fifty one.
There are twelve slated houses and five thatched ones.
Seven of the people of this townland are over seventy and their names are James Hughes, Pat Mullen, Robert Newcome, Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Mullen, Mrs. Moran and Mrs. Mills. Some of them can tell stories but none of them can talk Irish.
