Some years ago the tolls were only from three pence to six pence, but they are from six pence to a shilling nowadays.
When the seller has been paid for the cattle he gives the buyer some money which is called the "luckpenny" which is from a shilling for a small calf to a half-a-crown for a big bullock. - The fairs used to be held long ago in the villages and towns. My Uncle told me that fairs were more numerous some time ago than they are now.
