    It was a massive triangular building with three towers one of which is still standing and it had large dungeons beneath the towers. Besides the castle there are to be seen the ruins of one immense dwelling-place and a church said to have been built by Fitzgerald in the 14th century. The Barrow runs along the north side and supplied with water a wide ditch that extended round the other sides so that entrance had to be made across a bridge and the island on which the castle stood was called Port Na hinch
