- The hidden treasure of Lea castle lies in a deep pool in the river Barrow near the castle. It consists chiefly of church ornaments and sacred vessels in gold,silver,and bronze which were plundered by the Fitzgeralds from the surrounding monasteries and stored in the vault of their castle. The treasure was captured with the castle by the O'Dempsey's and carefully guarded by them for over a hundred years. When the Fitzgeralds lay siege to Lea castle, the head of the O'Dempsey clan before surrendering the castle(continues on next page)
