  1. The football match of one hundred years ago was called as it is now the "Avondale" team and the playing pitch of that times was Avondale Lawn. The matches played principaly of that time were between Avondale and Avoca. The latter known as the Copperheads. There were twenty one men on each team. There were some very heavy contests between those two teams The players themselves picked the teams as there were no G.A.A. committees at that time.
    The football matches of those years were played between parishs. The players between many were Peter Gahan as I am told was
