- Poor people did not put boots on their children until they were able to earn the price of the boots themselves in olden times, but the rich had them on their children before they left the cradle.
In olden times some people never wore boots, and they could walk on thorns and they would not hurt them. I heard of a man who never wore boots, he lives in Billis, and his name is Mr. McElwaine, if he wore boots he would go mad.
Children go bare-foot in Summer but they do not in Winter.
The water used for to wash feet in not thrown out after sun-set for fear you would throw it on the fairies.
