    Oliver Cromwell landed in Dublin in the year 1649 with a powerful army. Eoghan Ruadh O Neill at this time was dead so that Ireland was easily conquered although Cromwell had some fierce fights. Ireland was then fully conquered in the year 1652, Galway being the last town to hold out. At least one third of the people were killed either by famine, plague or by war. Everywhere Cromwell captured a town or village he destroyed flocks and herds in order to try and starve the
