  1. Long ago there were no schools like there are nowadays. The teachers had to teach in farmer's barns They remained about a week in each village teaching in the barns. The used pens made from goose or turkey quills. They used slates and pencil for doing arithmetic. They taught arithmetic, Euclid and Algebra. The boys of that liked to go to school and went until they were full grown men.
