- Local Marriage Customs
Marriages take place in this district before Ash Wednesday and again at Easter. A lot of people get married on Shrove Tuesday which is the day before Ash Wednesday.
When the bride and bridegroom are leaving the church after the marriage, confetti on ice is thrown on them. When they are going away an old shoe is tied to the back of the car. About twelve men or boys dress in straw and wear false faces. They go to the wedding - house and demand drink. They fight if they do not get it. Sometimes they ask money. In the country the wedding - feast is usually held in the brides house. All the relatives and friends of the bride and bridegroom are present(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
