- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)on a purplish-white ground. In the winter months the Yellow Hammers congregate with large flocks of Sparrows and Chaffinches.
In the winter months we find Curlews round our sea-coasts, where they search for food in the sand. In early spring the Curlews fly inland, where they remain until the end of summer. They make their nests on the ground and do not lay more than four eggs. The young curlews commence to run about very soon after leaving the shell. At the sign of danger, the parents give a loud cry, and the young curlew lie on the ground, remaining perfectly still until all the danger is past.- Bailitheoir
