    devil to sit down on this chair until he would get ready. The devil sat down on the chair and he could not get out of it. Then the blacksmith got his sledge and went to kill the devil with it. The devil asked him to have mercy on him and that he would not come back for another three years. After the three years the devil came again to the blacksmith. The blacksmith tried to trick the devil again but he was unsuccessful. At last the man gave his consent to go with the devil.
    On there way they got very thirsty and they decided to go in for a drink but none of them had any money. The blacksmith asked the devil to change himself into a two shilling piece and he would put him into his purse. The devil agreed and the blacksmith put him into his purse. When he got him into his purse he was going to kill him. The devil asked for mercy and told the blacksmith that he would not come back if he would spare him. The blacksmith let him go
