In this parish about 35 years ago lived a girl called Quinn. A young gentleman named Darcy came home from America very wealthy. They got engaged and he went back to America to settle his affairs. After a year he came home and they got married. They were very happy for a few years. Then he bought a public house and began to drink. Mrs Darcy could not bear drink and she had no patience with him. She treated him badly. He developed consumption, and while he was in bed sick she refused to attend him. Some of the neighbours attended him, the room was in such a state of untidiness that Darcy said "if it is in my power to come back and haunt that woman I'll do it." After a year's illness he died.
About a week after he died , Mrs Darcy was in the back yard one night at 10 oclock and her husband stood before her. She swooned and the priest was sent for. The priest came and attended her and said he would not be surprised if Darcy did appear. The same thing happened three or four times until at length the priest had to exorcise the spirit.
