    Thomas Murphy, Ballinabarna, throws the half hundred weight. Edward Stephenson, Ringwood, was a great cyclist, and runner. Patrick Pendergast, Mangan, was one of the best tug-o'-war pullers in the parish of the Rower. James Doran, Collraney, won several prizes for being the best flat-race runner. William Shee, Ballylogue was a great sword-fighter in the seventeenth century. He was the champion sword-fighter in Co. Kilkenny. John Hanrahan, Kilconly swam across the river Barrow under the water.
