An Old Song
“I dream of thee, old Drimoleague, and High Street there my home”
The following was composed by one Coakley of Drimoleague about thirty years ago - whilst in service in the British Navy.I dream of thee, old Drimoleague,
And High Street there my home:
And parents kind and brothers fond,
From whom I had to roam.
In distant lands 'neath foreign skies
Far over now am I,
But where’er I go I’m proud to know,
I’m a gay young Drimoleague boy.I think on my loving school-mates,
They now are all grown men,
And on my happy childhood’s days
And wish them back again.
For my young heart no trouble knew
Nor danger could I flee,
O'er the ocean’s track my thoughts fly back
Sweet Drimoleague to thee.Oh! well do I remember Drimoleague's quarries old
And the gallant men that worked there in
With courage stout and bold
They are famed in history’s pages for workmanship and skill.
And like brothers work together at the crowbar and the drill.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
