- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)This agent would be changed and replaced by another from time to time. Lord Clinton was considered a good landlord. He did not carry out evictions to the extent other landlords did but his agents and others employed in connection with the collection of rents were harsh tyrants.
There was a re-allotment of the land about sixty years ago by a land engineer named Mr. Gilman who created new boundaries which made the farms more compact. There was always trouble between the landlord and tenant, the rents being high, almost three times greater than they are to-day and being beyond the power of payment by the tenant. Tithes were collected annually the landlord sending a gang of men to collect them. Potatoes and oats were generally taken by the gang and brought away, regardless of whether the farmer could spare it or not. Had he put up any resistance he would be evicted on the spot.- Bailitheoir
