There was a great battle fought in the field in olden times. It is surrounded by the river Bride. Pullerick, Gounerough and the Abhain a brid . There is a field in Cooldubh owened by Mr Sheehan where the fairs used to be held where all the faction fights used to be fought. a great crowd of people used to assemble there. The pigs used to be five years old before there were sold.
On one occasion there was a hedge teacher at the fair and one of the pigs ran towards him and took him on her back with his face turned back to the pig's tail. There was such shouting and laughter that it was heard in Macroom a distance of nine miles.
A force of military and police was sent out to see what was the matter.
