  1. There is scarcely a townland in Ireland, but can claim to the possession of a local poet. The townland of Glounaglough, in which I live, is no exception to this rule, for it was the home, during the latter part of the last century, of a bard of no mean ability, in the person of John T. Gleeson. He was the son of a farmer, being born about the year 1858, and was known locally, by the name of 'Johnny Tom'. In the course of years, he became the owner of his father's farm, and lived there amid the quiet scenes of country life, until his death in 1923.
His Compositions, of which there were several, were mostly of the ballad type. They were written on subjects of local interest. The style of his verses, as well as the motives that actuated him in writing them, may be best illustrated by the following ;-
    The Wild Barraboo.
    1
Ye jovial young fellows attend for awhile,
Till I'll sing a few verses, that would cause to smile,
I mean for to sing, and moreover to trace,
Of a most interesting and funny fox chase.
    Chorus.
    Right tally ho!
