When the troubled times in Ireland broke out in the year 1916, they could not send the parcels by post as the mails were often held up, telegraph wires cut and trains delayed so they could no longer make a living in Ireland so they had to leave and return to England.
The land in Greenmount for the best part is fertile but a great part of it sloping towards the sea is rocky. The people in every house in Greenmount have a full view of the sea and in this way the Greenmount houses are very nicely situated for the people in the Summer months. There is a road running from Greenmount Bridge and on one side of this road there is a river and on the other side there is a small wood. There is not much growth in this wood now as it was all cut away in former times.- Bailitheoir
