  1. Fairy forts are pretty numerous in the school district as there are eight or nine there altogether. They are usually called forts, but some people call them a liss or rath.
    These forts are situated in the following places. There are two in Gurth, the same number in Gilcaugh and Kilclough, while there are three in Ballyshoneen. Mostly all of them are surrounded by an earthen rampart, while there are briars and furze growing around some of them.
    There is only one fort in the district having an entrance hole to it and that belongs to Hennessy's of Gurth. Paddy Buckley, a local inhabitant is supposed to have explored this fort about fourteen years ago. This is the description he gave of the interior of it. The floor and roof were covered with big flags and the fort itself was divided into apartments. He also said there was a very long passage which he did not go through, but said it must be
