  1. In the remote parts of Donoughmore, next parish to Inniscarra there lived long ago a half wit named Patsy Leary, known also as Patsy the Leprechaun from his dealings with the fairy cobblers. This lad's outstanding traits were his dislike of work and his desire to acquire wealth to be independent of work.
    All his father's efforts to initiate his son into the cobbler's art were unsuccessful. Beyond damaging and wasting leather, losing wan[?] and pricking his fingers with the awl Patsy could could never get.
    "I know a way to make money quicker than by earning it", he used to say to his mother when she advised him to learn his father's trade. This idea he never discussed with his sire. Having no one to consult except an unsympathetic sister named Judy whom he was obliged to mind Patsy betook himself to the yard where he consulted the pig
