Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)we called "pork" soles (gutta-porcha). If one exposed the soles too near the fire they got soft and melted. Boots are made and repaired locally. We have Kielys in Kiskeam and O'Sullivans in Boherbue. Shoemaking has been a tradition for about 10 years in the kiely family, of whom there are now two. There are also two Sullivans in Boherbue. The advent of shop boots told badly on the trade. Their principal work is in repairing boots and shoes.
Clogs were not made locally.
Some children still go barefooted in SUmmer, but the number is lessening.
